Surgical Technology is a very rewarding healthcare profession. Surgical technologists work under the direction of the surgeon. A surgical technologist performs a very specific technical job before, during and after surgery.
The Associate of Applied Science in Surgical Technology is dedicated to providing a well-rounded education, based on high standards, principles, and values. The Surgical Technology Program promotes leadership, professionalism, and critical thinking skills while stimulating intellectual inquiry and creativity of students to their highest potential.
Students desiring admission to the Surgical Technology Program must first meet general admission requirements and be un-provisionally accepted for admission to the University. Students must subsequently make a separate application to the Division of Health Sciences and Business Technology in order to be considered for admission to the Surgical Technology Program.The Surgical Technology Program is available at both the Lafayette and Alexandria campuses in Louisiana. Applicants must specify their preferred campus on the program application.
Accreditation
The Surgical Technology program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA).
