Prior Service Members & Current Active Duty Personnel Prior service members honorably discharged and having served at least 24 months, and current Active Duty personnel. First time applicants: must complete VA Form 22-1990 (Application for VA Education Benefits). To expedite the process it is recommended that this application is filled out online at https://vabenefits.vba.va.gov/vonapp/main.asp Veterans must also provide a copy of the "Member-4" page of the DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty). Active Duty personnel must have an Education Services Officer from their unit complete Part II of the VA Form 22-1990. After the application is processed by the VA, students will receive a letter stating their "Explanation of Benefits". This letter will tell the student the amount of VA Educational Benefits they are eligible for. All students must also bring or send a copy of their "Explanation of Benefits" to the VA Office in Room 112, Acadian Center. Students can view the current rates for Montgomery G.I. Bill at http://www.gibill.va.gov/resources/benefits_resources/rates/CH30/ch30rates100110.htm Also, if the veteran contributed to the voluntary "Buy - Up" program the student should receive an additional amount added to their standard rates based on the amount paid into the program. Transfer students, or LSU Eunice students who have changed their degree plan after already receiving benefits under chapter 30, must complete the VA form 22-1995 (Request for Change of Program or Place of Training). Click here for a list of approved programs at LSU Eunice. Both Chapters 30 and Chapter 1606 students are required to verify their enrollment on or after the last day of each benefit month by calling the VA at 1-877-823-2378 or by accessing the VA website (www.gibill.va.gov/wave). Students will be prompted by the automated system to provide their VA file numbers (SSN) and passwords (first time password is the last 6 digits of your SSN). All VA students must also bring or send a copy of their current schedule to the VA Office in rm. 112 in the Acadian Center. This must be done each semester, as soon as they schedule classes. The VA office at LSU Eunice cannot certify students to receive payments from the VA until a current schedule is received. |
