LSU Eunice offers Leisure Learn Courses

Special interest leisure learning short courses are being scheduled by Louisiana State University Eunice for the fall semester. Classes cover a wide variety of subjects from dance to Spanish to memoir writing.

"Aquatic Exercise" will meet on Mondays and Wednesday beginning August 23 and runs through November 17 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Students will use a noodle and flat board in the pool to help improve cardiovascular fitness. The class is $50 for 10 sessions, $70 for 15 sessions and $90 for 25 sessions.

"Louisiana Jitterbug Dance" will be held Mondays and Wednesdays between September 13 and September 23. Students will learn Jitterbug moves being used on dance floors around South Louisiana. Couples only. Registration is $80 per couple.

"Digital Photography Composition" will meet on Wednesdays in September beginning September 8 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Students learn to uses the various rules of composition to improve their photography. The class is $70.

"Digital Photography Techniques" will explore photography beyond the auto button. Students will learn techniques ranging from depth of field to white balance. The class meets Wednesdays in October between October 6 and October 27. The class will be 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. A digital SLR with at least one lens is required. Registration is $70.

"Beginning Conversational Spanish" will introduce novices to the Spanish Language through basic concepts and phrases. The class will be Mondays between September 20 and November 8 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Registration is $80.

"Beginning Drawing Class" will teach basic techniques such as shading, perspective and proportion. The class meets Tuesdays between September 21 and November 9 at 6 p.m. The class cost $80 and there is a $15 materials fee due on the first day of class.

"Researching Your Family History Using Primary Courthouse Documents" will introduce the student to various local government records deposited at local courthouses that are key genealogical and historical resources. The class includes a tour of the Saint Landry Parish Clerk of Courts Archives in Opelousas. Registration is $60 and the class meets Tuesday between September 21 and October 19 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

"Memoir Writing" will give students the chance to compile brief memoirs that can be shared with family or friends. The class meets Wednesdays starting October 27 and runs through November 17 from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Registration is $60.

LSU Eunice Continuing Education also offers professional development courses on notary exam preparation, insurance state exam prep, as well as, the SevSafe Food Safety certification prep and exam.

ACT preparation courses in English and Reading and in Math and Science are also available through LSU Eunice.
