LSU Eunice Offers Leisure Learn Courses

EUNICE - Special interest leisure learning short courses are being scheduled by Louisiana State University Eunice for the fall semester. Classes cover a wide variety of subjects from dance to photography to genealogy.

"Aquatic Exercise" will meet on Mondays and Wednesday beginning August 29 and runs through November 23 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Students will use a noodle and flat board in the pool to help improve cardiovascular fitness. The class is $50 for 10 sessions, $70 for 15 sessions and $90 for 25 sessions. Aquatic Exercises' instructor is Lisa Ardoin.

"Louisiana Jitterbug Dance" will be held Tuesdays between October 25 and November 15. Students will learn Jitterbug moves being used on dance floors around South Louisiana. Couples only. Registration is $80 per couple. Paula Lafleur is the instructor. The class will meet between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.

"Digital Photography Techniques" will explore photography beyond the auto button. Students will learn techniques ranging from depth of field to white balance. The class meets Saturday, September 17 and Saturday, September 24 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. A digital SLR with at least one lens is required. Registration is $70. The instructor is Van Reed

"Advanced Digital Photography" will guide Digital SLR users through topics like using your flash, shooting RAW, and learning proper settings in different scenarios to make your pictures stand out from the crowd. The class meets Saturday, October 8 and Saturday, October 15 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Students must own a digital SLR camera and at least one lens and have completed LSU Eunice's Digital Photography Techniques or have a basic understanding of how to use aperture, shutter speed and ISO to make exposures. Registration is $70. The instructor is Van Reed.

"Researching Your Family History Using Primary Courthouse Documents" will introduce the student to various local government records deposited at local courthouses that are key genealogical and historical resources. The class includes a tour of the Saint Landry Parish Clerk of Courts Archives in Opelousas. Registration is $40 and the class meets Tuesdays between September 6 and September 27 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The instructor is Keith Fontenot.

LSU Eunice Continuing Education also offers professional development courses on notary exam preparation, grant writing, as well as, the SevSafe Food Safety certification prep and exam.

"ServSafe Food Safety Certification Prep and Exam" will meet on Saturday, October 1 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration is $160. Deadline for registration is September 9.

"Grant Writing" will be Tuesdays between September 15 and October 13. The class will meet between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Registration is $100 and LSU Eunice's Director of Grants and Development, Jane Spradling, is the instructor.

"Notary Preparation Class" meets Saturdays between September 10 and November 12 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Registration deadline is August 26. The class cost $289 and requires several text books. The instructor is Robin Jones.

ACT preparation courses in English and Reading and in Math and Science are also available through LSU Eunice.
