LSU Eunice announced that the university will begin following summer hours on May 20th. The university will open Monday through Thursday at 7:30 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. On Fridays, LSU Eunice will open at 7:30 a.m. and close at 11:30 a.m. Summer hours remain in effect through August 16. The university will close July 4, 2013 to celebrate the Independence Day holiday.

Classes that are scheduled to meet at times after the close of business day at the university will continue as scheduled.

The 2013 graduating class in Radiologic Technology received their pins in ceremonies held this week at LSU Eunice. Eighteen graduates were honored at the annual pinning ceremony after spending six semesters in the top-ranked program in Louisiana.

Also honored during the ceremony were Chachere, Frederick and Gregorie, who earned the program's top awards. Chachere won the Outstanding Scholastic Student Award which is given to the student with the highest grade point average in the class and the Outstanding Achievement Award. Frederick earned the Distinguished Student Award which is selected by class members and honors the student who is a role model for others in the program and the Outstanding Clinical Student Award for Opelousas General Hospital. Gregorie won the Outstanding Clinical Student Award for Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. Linzey Young was recognized for his work as class president.

The university's Radiologic Technology is one of the top programs in the nation, consistently having an 100 percent pass rate on national board exams.

May 17The Lady Bengals defeated Jones County Community College and Phoenix College today to advance to the finals of the NJCAA National Tournament.  The girls will play Saturday, May 18 at 1:30 PM.

May 16Lady Bengals defeated Murray State (Oklahoma) 12-4 in the first round of the NJCAA National Tournament.  The girls will take Mercyhurst North East (Pennsylvania) in game two at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.  Round two can be heard at: http://www.ihigh.com/njcaatv/

The LSU Eunice softball team won three consecutive elimination games on Saturday to capture the NJCAA Region 23 Championship and clinch a spot in next week's NJCAA National Tournament.

The wins gave the Lady Bengals (57-5) their third consecutive Region 23 title.

"These girls fought. They wanted it. We are banged up and tired, but we showed our heart and a lot of character and I am extremely proud of those girls," head coach Andy Lee said.

"We need a little rest, we've played six games in three days. This was a challenge today. We have to win three elimination games and we did it," Lee added.

Lee was named Region 23 Coach of the Year after the game as well.

LSU Eunice won an early morning game over Pearl River Community College by an 8-0 score to earn a spot in the national tournament, as the top two Region 23 teams qualify.

However, LSU Eunice had unfinished business to settle with Jones County Junior College, who sent the Lady Bengals to the losers bracket on Friday night.

A 6-0 win in their first game of the day against Jones forced one final game, before LSU Eunice 10-4 victory to grab the regional title.

Over the three games on Saturday, the Lady Bengals connected for five home runs, including two in the championship game from Brooke Clark and two more from Ashley Subervielle. Emily Nolan added a homer of her own, a massive three-run shot against Pearl River that started the day's scoring.

For the three day tournament, the Lady Bengals connected on 13 total home runs, including five from Clark (8 total RBI), three from Nolan (5 total RBI), two from Kelsey Hollier (5 total RBI), two from Subervielle (3 total RBI), and one from Taylor Simon (1 RBI).

Exactly half of their 44 runs in the tournament (22) came off of home runs.

LSU Eunice now waits to see where they will be seeded in the national tournament, who their opening opponent will be and what time their game will be when they begin play on Wednesday.

LSU Eunice honored its faculty and staff at the university's annual Faculty Staff Appreciation Dinner. Assistant Professor in Nursing, Bonnie Dupre, was presented with the night's highest award.

Dupre won the coveted LSUE Foundation Teaching Excellence Award sponsored by Campus Federal Credit Union. She started at LSU Eunice in 2008 after completing her Master of Science in nursing with an advanced practice license in adult nursing practitioner. Dupre was promoted to Assistant Professor in Nursing in 2011, has been involved in several Undergraduate Research Summer Institute projects, and was granted an Endowed Professorship in Nursing for 2012-2013 for which she developed and instituted a nursing pharmacology class. Dupre is a graduate of Basile High School, and she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from McNeese in 2001. She is married to Marshall Dupre, and they have two children.

Caletta Soileau, the university's Human Resource Specialist; Donald Alfred, a university custodian; and Debra Seihan, an administrative assistant in the Division of Health Sciences and Business Technology were presented with the LSU Eunice Foundation's Staff Excellence Award.

Campus Federal Credit Union also sponsored for the first time the LSUE Foundation Academic Advising Excellence Award. The award was presented to Steve Gervais, Associate Professor and Coordinator of Fire and Emergency Services, and to Dr. Lois Nemetz, Associate Professor of Communication Studies. The recipients of the Advising Excellence Award are selected by the students of the university.

Dr. Michael Alleman and Dr. John Hamlin were recognized for their award of promotion and tenure. Alleman was promoted to Associate Professor of English while Hamlin was promoted to Associate Professor of Biology.

Faculty and staff members were also recognized for their service to the university. Marjana Herring, an information technology technical support specialist, was honored for 30 years of service to LSU Eunice. Dr. James Robinson, Professor of Sociology, was recognized for 25 years of service.

Honored for 20 years with LSU Eunice were Dr. Jameel Al-Dujaili, Robert McLaughlin, Floyd Menard and Avery Williams. Those recognized for 15 years of service were Dr. Maura Cavell, Tanva Huval, Lorrie Joubert, Dr. Fred Landry, Camille Lavigne, Mary Leslie, Dr. Lois Nemetz, and Vice Chancellor Renée Robichaux. Receiving honors for ten years with LSU Eunice were Jennifer Creswell, Dr. Billy Fontenot, Steven Gervais, Angela Sonnier, and Michael Wyble. Being acknowledged for 5 years with LSUE were Dr. Luciane Berg, Danielle Bertrand, Bernard Dixon, Bonnie Dupre, Angela Klumpp, Andy Lee, Dorothy McDonald, Jude Meche, Gretchen Miller, Gerald Patout, Crystal Rougeau, Michael Scanlan, and Jamie Thibodeaux.

The LSUE Foundation also honored the university's retirees. Retiring this year are Donald Alfred, custodian with the physical plant; Gerald Cox, who worked with the physical plant since 1997; Cindy Darbonne, Professor of Business Information Technology; Edwin Deshautelle, Professor of Business Administration and Coordinator of Management; Floyd Menard, security guard; Elijah Neville, Custodial Supervisor; Claire Richard, an accounting specialist; Dr. Jeanne Soileau, Professor of Office Administration; Debra Vidrine, Associate Professor of Nursing; and Elaine Watkins, and administrative coordinator with Business Affairs.
